ISO 26262 An Introduction
I recently participated in a training course for ISO 26262 a standard adapted from IEC 61508 to provide effective safety-related systems controls for Electrical and/or Electronic (E/E) hardware and software systems within road vehicles throughout their life-cycle.
Safety and the proliferation of computer aided or controlled systems are key issues for future automobile development. New functionalities in not only areas such as driver assistance, propulsion, in vehicle dynamics control and active and passive safety systems increasingly touch the domain of system safety engineering. ISO 26262 will strengthen our ability to provide safe system development with evidence that all reasonable system safety objectives are satisfied. ISO 26262 includes guidance to avoid or reduce risks through a systemic approach in development and implementation of appropriate requirements and processes. Read More…
Evaluating Internal Auditor Training
Evaluating Internal Auditor Training for ISO 9001:2000 (2008) ISO 14,000, TS 16949, etc.
So you need to get some of your employees trained to be internal auditors. There are lots of companies out there ready and willing to provide that training at a great variety of prices. But how do you know that the training organization that you choose will indeed provide the training that you need.
First of all price is NOT an indicator of value. High price simply means high price. However, too low of a price may well mean that the training value will be poor. Here are some guidelines, which you can use to evaluate potential sources for internal auditor training. Read More…
Supplier Performance
In my auditing travels, one practice that I see on a regular basis that makes no sense is the practice of measuring supplier performance. Specifically combining objective measures and subjective measures and trying to calculate a formula for acceptance. Let’s get one thing straight. It cannot work! Let me explain the typical story. Auditing the Organization’s Story
Auditing has no purpose if it is not going to assess the systems in relation to current risks. Organizations like individuals have good times, slow times, struggles, growth times, unexpected windfalls, and unexpected trials and tribulations. Each of these conditions imposes itself on the management systems of the organization and each creates conditions that can cause stress to processes and systems. It should be one of the first priorities of an auditor to determine and understand what current conditions are influencing the organization and how they are affecting the organization’s performance. Fostering Change
All leaders face the challenges associated with resistance to change. There is always the temptation to drive change through the exercise of power and control. This approach is often seen when organizations are bought or absorbed by other organizations or through the introduction of new management teams. The destructive result comes when management groups try to establish the “Our way is better than yours and since you have no choice, we will impose our systems and beliefs on you” system of change management. At the very least this approach can result in years of upheaval and poor performance and at worst utter failure. Read More…
Sustainability and Critical Thinking
Sustainability
To thrive in the current and future economy, an organization must be able to embrace innovation within their business culture. Successful organisations must tap into their imagination, knowledge and experience and continually re-invent their core business processes in order to achieve long term sustainability. Organisations with a systemic innovation capability will find new business opportunities that are invisible to their competitors. Read More…
Definition of a Leader
There is not a unanimous definition for a leader. Leaders come in many different forms. In history we see great leaders such as General George “Blood and Guts’ Patton who was know for his charge ahead, take no prisoners approach as well as leaders such a Robert E Lee who was often referred to as Grandma Lee. Yet with these totally opposite styles, they were both recognized for their ability to get their troops to do extraordinary things. On the subject of the multitude of leadership characteristics, Voltaire said “All styles are good, except for the tiresome ones.” Read More…

Looking for iso training that will give you an effective and efficient quality management system, a system that will make money for your organization, a system that will make you the first choice of your customers? For this they get systems that are dogmatic, inconsistent with the goals and objectives of the organization, heavy on documentation and light on value. Read More…
What is a System Audit?
What is a system audit. The TS 16949 standard describes three types on internal audits, Management System Audits, Manufacturing Process Audits and Product Audits. Unfortunately too many people refer to them as System, Process and Product audits. Because with modern quality management systems we stress process auditing, those that short form the requirements get confused. They know what Process Audits are, but then they find it difficult to identify what a System Audit is. Simply reading the requirements and referring to them clearly makes the task easier. Read More…
